Natural Anxiety Relief: Our Essential Oils For Anxiety Guide

bottles with best essential oils for anxiety
Contents

People have known about the healing powers of plants and plant extracts for centuries. Essential oils are composed of plants and flora. Many people use them in aromatherapy to relax and unwind.

The research is still thin. NCCIH says little rigorous research has been done on aromatherapy for insomnia, and studies of lavender for anxiety have been small. Essential oils are not a treatment for depression or an anxiety disorder.

Today, people are stressed and anxiety-filled for many reasons.

Some people find essential oils a pleasant addition to other anxiety relief strategies. Popular choices include lavender, rose geranium, chamomile, vetiver, ylang ylang and frankincense.

Picking an essential oil to help you unwind comes down to which scent you enjoy.

All of the oils I’ve mentioned are usually inhaled, with a diffuser or a few drops on a tissue. Dilute them in a carrier oil before they touch your skin, never swallow them, and keep them away from children.

If anxiety affects your daily life, talk with a doctor or mental health professional. Effective treatments exist.

Below, I’ll be reviewing my favourite essential oil products that can be used as herbal remedies of anxiety.

Majestic Pure Lavender Oil (Lavandula Angustifolia)

Majestic Pure Lavender Essential Oil

Bulgaria is one of the world’s largest producers of lavender essential oil. The maker describes Majestic Pure Lavender Oil as pure and free of additives. Note that “therapeutic grade” is a marketing term, not an official standard.

Studies suggest a lavender oil product taken by mouth might help anxiety, but NCCIH notes the studies were small and had other limits. Those were specially made capsules; don’t swallow essential oils.

Lavender is considered to be one of the gentlest essential oils. You can apply the oil as aromatherapy for anxiety by using a diffuser or you can put a few drops on your pillow at night to help you relax and sleep well.

You can also mix a couple of drops into a carrier oil or unscented bath product before adding it to your bath, since oil doesn’t dissolve in water.

This earthy oil is a favorite in aromatherapy. Another name given to Vetiver is Khus Khus, and it’s well known in India and other Asian countries.

Conclusion

When looking for healthy relief, you have many choices of essential oils for anxiety, restlessness, depression, stress or insomnia.

Essential oils can be a pleasant part of a relaxing routine, but the evidence that they treat anxiety is limited.

Note, that all essential oils are not manufactured equally, and you want the best and purest quality.

Use essential oils for anxiety and other symptoms, but take precautions. Test your skin for sensitivity or any allergies when using the essential oils. Lavender, Rose Geranium, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang, and Chamomile all have different scents, so choose the one you enjoy most.

If anxiety, low mood or poor sleep lasts or gets in the way of daily life, see a doctor or mental health professional.
